Khartoum: Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Professor Ahmed Modawi Musa reaffirmed state commitment to the higher education sector despite ongoing challenges. Meeting with University of El-Geneina Vice-Chancellor Professor Al-Tayib Ali Ahmed, the minister outlined efforts to provide safe alternative campuses for war-affected institutions and accommodate displaced students, including those studying abroad.
According to Sudan News Agency, the minister acknowledged the devastating impact of the conflict, noting that the University of El-Geneina suffered total destruction, alongside human losses. Nonetheless, he praised the university's resilience in continuing academic operations, including conducting exams under difficult conditions, even from refugee camps.
The minister emphasized the need for a national mobilization of academics to support recovery efforts. He highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts to ensure the continuity of education and academic excellence in the face of adversity.
The university vice-chancellor reported on the institution's ongoing academic progress, highlighting the graduation of the first medical cohort from Kassala. He also noted the continued teaching across multiple disciplines, supported by host universities, showcasing the resilience and determination of both staff and students to pursue education despite the challenges faced.
