Khartoum: The High Committee for Preparing the Return to Khartoum State, led by Lt. Gen. Engineer Ibrahim Jabir, a member of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC) and Assistant Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, convened its 30th meeting. The gathering was attended by TSC Member Dr. Nuwara Abu Mohamed Tahir, several ministers, the Wali of Khartoum State, and security officials.
According to Sudan News Agency, Lt. Gen. Ibrahim Jabir emphasized the urgency of accommodating returning citizens by prioritizing projects that offer genuine employment opportunities. He advocated for training programmes tailored to skilled workers, industrial apprenticeship graduates, and engineers, reflecting current labor market demands. Additionally, he underscored the significance of establishing effective project management and forming international and regional partnerships to secure additional funding.
Lt. Gen. Jabir highlighted the necessity of a specialized management structure to oversee productive projects. He emphasized creating international and regional partnerships to enhance funding opportunities. He also highlighted the crucial role of higher education institutions in the nation's development, stressing that the stability of these institutions is essential for the full return of citizens. He urged the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to enhance working conditions and encourage the return of expatriate university professors. Furthermore, he called on the Ministry of Foreign Affairs to activate the Cultural Affairs Department to improve international relations and provide training opportunities for Sudanese professionals abroad.
Moreover, Lt. Gen. Jabir stressed the importance of maintaining the quality of higher education and aligning graduates with labor market needs. He praised the Central Bank of Sudan's policy of funding university tuition, which supports low-income and disadvantaged families in educating their children and promotes equitable access to education.
At the meeting's conclusion, the High Committee approved the report of the Productive Projects Committee, chaired by Minister of Trade and Industry Mahasin Yagoub. The committee selected 10 productive projects aimed at benefiting approximately 4 million individuals, including productive families and graduates.
Higher Education and Scientific Research Minister Prof. Ahmed Modawi reported that Sudanese higher education institutions have strengthened in quality and relevance, aligning with the National Roadmap for the Return of Higher Education Institutions.
