Khartoum: The High Committee for Combating Dengue Fever and Malaria convened to address the pressing challenges and urgent needs in managing the outbreak affecting the country. The meeting was presided over by Dr. Lamiaa Abdel-Ghaffar, the Minister of Cabinet Affairs.
According to Sudan News Agency, the meeting saw attendance from key government figures, including the Ministers of Health, Federal Governance and Rural Development, as well as the Walis of Khartoum and Al-Gezira States, and the State Minister at the Ministry of Finance. Several senior officials from related institutions were also present.
The Cabinet’s Secretary-General, Ali Mohamed Ali, in a press briefing, shared that the committee received a comprehensive report from the Minister of Health, Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim. The report detailed the strategies implemented by the health ministry to curb the spread of dengue fever and malaria.
Discussions during the meeting included contributions from the Minister of Federal Governance and Rural Development and the Walis of Khartoum and Al-Gezira States. Mohamed Ali emphasized the committee’s insistence on daily updates regarding the outbreak and confirmed the Ministry of Finance’s pledge to secure essential funding to meet immediate needs. Additionally, the committee recommended creating a thorough media plan designed to inform citizens accurately, dispel misinformation, and enhance awareness about prevention and control strategies through various media outlets.
The meeting underscored the necessity of rallying international support and improving coordination with global partners, humanitarian organizations, and United Nations agencies to bolster national efforts in containing the outbreak.
