Khartoum: The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, has highlighted the pivotal role played by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in bolstering maternal and child health initiatives in Sudan, particularly during challenging times such as the war. The UNFPA’s ongoing efforts in remote regions, including El-Fashir, through collaborations with organizations like the Patients’ Aid Fund, were commended during a farewell ceremony for the UNFPA Country Director, Ms. Argentina.
According to Sudan News Agency, the farewell event was held at the office of the Undersecretary of the Federal Ministry of Health, attended by several Directors of General Directorates. Dr. Haitham acknowledged the UNFPA’s contributions, which include supplying medical resources for maternal health, training healthcare workers, and aiding in the development of treatment protocols. He emphasized the necessity of maintaining this cooperative relationship.
Ms. Argentina expressed her appreciation to the
Ministry of Health for the partnership and collective endeavors during her time in office. She reiterated the UNFPA’s commitment to supporting health projects in Sudan, with a focus on medical staff and the distribution of humanitarian aid. She also extended her gratitude to all government bodies that have supported these initiatives.
The ceremony concluded with a tribute to Ms. Argentina, who received a commemorative gift, symbolizing the strong partnership between the Ministry of Health and the UNFPA.
