Health Ministers of Sudan and Turkey Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Health Cooperation


Geneva: On the sidelines of the 79th session of the World Health Assembly in Geneva, the Federal Minister of Health, Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, met with Turkish Deputy Health Minister Dr. Nurullah Okumus to discuss ways to strengthen health cooperation between Sudan and Turkey.



According to Sudan News Agency, the meeting was attended by Minister Plenipotentiary Mai Ibrahim, Deputy Head of Mission, and officials responsible for the World Health Organization file, along with several members of the Sudanese delegation. The Sudanese health minister expressed Sudan’s appreciation for the significant support provided by Turkey during the past period, particularly in terms of medical assistance that has contributed to stabilizing health services despite wartime conditions.



The discussions between the two health ministers also highlighted the importance of activating the memorandum of understanding between Sudan and Turkey in the fields of pharmaceuticals, treatment protocols for patients, and specialized medical training. There was a focus on expanding cooperation in pharmaceuticals, medical technologies, medical equipment, and benefiting from Turkish expertise in establishing medical cities. Additionally, the expansion of training opportunities for Sudanese personnel in Turkey in highly specialized medical services was discussed.



The Turkish deputy health minister affirmed Turkey’s commitment to continuing cooperation with Sudan in the areas of healthcare, pharmaceuticals, and training. He praised the existing coordination between the two countries and reiterated Turkey’s continued support for Sudan.
