Khartoum: Federal Minister of Health, Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, on Saturday held a meeting with the General Directorate of Health Emergencies and Epidemic Control in Khartoum as part of the technical committees’ follow-ups on epidemic and disease vector control.
According to Sudan News Agency, the meeting focused on administrative and technical arrangements for leading emergency operations across the country’s states. It included a review of a report on the epidemiological and health emergency situation, as well as the status of the rainy season in several states. The Minister explained that some states are witnessing an increase in disease vectors, necessitating preparedness measures for the upcoming period.
Key measures include federal technical and financial support, identification of essential supplies, vehicles, and intervention mechanisms, and coordination with donors and the Ministry of Finance.
The Minister also called on state walis (governors) to mobilize popular efforts and strengthen local initiatives, particularly in Al-Gezira, Sennar, White Nile, River Nile, and North Kordofan states.
Dr. Haitham emphasized the importance of activating the high-level platform of the Supreme Ministerial Committee, which is set to convene on Sunday with participation from all relevant ministries.
The meeting will focus on addressing these epidemics, encouraging public awareness, and mobilizing support from other ministries, including Federal Governance, Local Governance, Agriculture and Livestock, and other bodies directly involved with the Health Ministry during such emergencies.
