London: The Head of the Mission at the Sudanese Embassy in London, Ambassador Babiker Al-Siddig Mohamed Al-Amin, engaged in discussions with the UK Minister for Africa, Lord Collins. The meeting focused on the political situation in Sudan and the British government’s planned conference on Sudan, seeking insights from the Sudanese government.
According to Sudan News Agency, Lord Collins reaffirmed the UK’s stance against the political charter signed by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia and its affiliates in Nairobi, emphasizing the importance of maintaining Sudan’s unity, sovereignty, and territorial integrity. He also stated that the UK recognizes General Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan as the President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC).
The discussions included the British government’s intention to address the humanitarian crisis in Sudan and efforts to promote a democratic transition. To support these goals, the UK plans to send the Director-General for Africa, the Americas and Overseas Territories, and the British Special Representative to Sudan.
Ambassador Al-Amin highlighted recent developments in Sudan, noting the success of the armed forces and allied groups in reclaiming territories previously occupied by militias, except in Darfur states. He underscored the unity among armed forces, armed struggle movements, and the people of Darfur against the Janjaweed militia, which has been accused of genocide and ethnic cleansing.
Al-Amin stressed that halting the war requires pressuring the militia’s supporters to cease supplying weapons and mercenaries and imposing punitive measures on militia leaders. He pointed out that some countries, like Kenya, continue to host militia leaderships and have acknowledged the parallel government proposed by the militia.
The ambassador reported an increase in citizens returning to areas liberated by the armed forces, with approximately two million returnees in recent weeks. This movement contrasts with the previous exodus when militias attacked villages, highlighting the armed forces’ role in protecting civilians.
Ambassador Al-Amin provided Lord Collins with reports from the International Organization for Migration on returnees to Sennar State after its liberation. Additionally, he presented a comprehensive dossier on incidents of rape, sexual violence, and kidnapping by the militia, given Lord Collins’ role as the British Prime Minister’s Special Representative for the Prevention of Sexual Violence in Conflict.
