Gezira: The Director General of the Ministry of Production and Economic Resources in Gezira State, Dr. Arafa Mahmoud Ahmed, has emphasized the importance of continued coordination with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) to enhance support for agricultural producers. Dr. Ahmed praised FAO’s role in bolstering agricultural production through its targeted programs aimed at producers, particularly regarding animal production inputs and aids.
According to Sudan News Agency, the remarks were made during a meeting held in Dr. Ahmed’s office with the FAO delegation, led by the Deputy Representative of the FAO in Sudan, Dr. Adam Yao. During the meeting, the delegation highlighted the organization’s ongoing efforts to supply farmers with necessary production materials essential for ensuring food security. The delegation also announced plans to engage with donors to address any shortages, increase the distribution of improved seeds, and enhance support for the horticultural sector in the upcoming phase.
The Acting Minister of Production and Economic Resources presented an overview of the severe impact on the agricultural sector, both plant and animal, due to attacks by the rebel Dagalo family militia. The presentation also addressed the current shortages in equipment and supplies, underscoring the urgent need for coordinated efforts to mitigate these challenges.
