Khartoum: The General Nuba Union has announced the activation of its structures and offices in Khartoum and other states as part of efforts to promote peace, strengthen social cohesion, and address the adverse effects of the ongoing conflict with the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia. The Union also reaffirmed its support for the Sudanese Armed Forces in their efforts in the "Battle of Dignity."
According to Sudan News Agency, Union Chairman Mohamed Abu Anja Abu Ras, speaking at the Ministry of Culture, Information, Antiquities and Tourism's media forum organized by SUNA at the Omdurman Cultural Center, outlined two key initiatives currently being pursued by the Union. The first initiative involves organizing a conference to bring together all Nuba communities to address internal issues. The second initiative is a dialogue project between the Nuba and the State to discuss matters that align with the country's broader national interests.
Abu Ras highlighted ongoing consultations with state institutions and Nuba traditional and community leaders to develop a shared vision for the internal dialogue process. He commended the sacrifices made by the Sudanese Armed Forces, noting their significant role in the Battle of Dignity. He expressed confidence in Sudan's ability to overcome its current challenges, drawing on its ancient civilization.
Discussing the country's political situation, Abu Ras stated the necessity for honest self-reflection after the war to overcome divisions and identify shared national interests. He emphasized the importance of demonstrating patriotism, confronting truth with honesty, passing on lessons to future generations, rejecting detrimental foreign interference, and acknowledging past political mistakes as a foundation for reconciliation.
