Port Sudan: Minister of Foreign Affairs Ambassador Ali Youssef returned home on Sunday following an official two-day diplomatic mission to Kenya.
According to Sudan News Agency, the Foreign Minister engaged in meetings with the Kenyan President and Foreign Minister, which were characterized by openness and focused on mutual interests. The discussions primarily revolved around enhancing bilateral relations and strengthening trade and economic collaborations. Ambassador Youssef emphasized the importance of activating joint committees to facilitate these goals.
The visit also resulted in an agreement to establish a political consultation committee to be convened semi-annually between the foreign ministers of Sudan and Kenya. This initiative aims to address and resolve issues that have previously hindered bilateral relations. During his meeting with the Kenyan President, Youssef conveyed greetings from General Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan, President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council, and extended an invitation for the Kenyan President to visit Sudan, which was accepted with a promise to determine the visit’s date soon.
Additionally, the discussions addressed significant challenges affecting the relationship between the two countries. Youssef highlighted agreements on several key issues, including Sudan’s reinstatement in the African Union, with crucial meetings set to occur in the coming days. He also mentioned a scheduled meeting in Nairobi to review sanctions imposed on African nations facing difficulties.
