Khartoum: The Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Mohy-Eddin Salim, received the UN Secretary-General’s Personal Envoy to Sudan, Mr. Ramtane Lamamra, at his office. The meeting focused on the ongoing efforts by the UN to achieve peace in Sudan.
According to Sudan News Agency, Mr. Lamamra emphasized the significant attention the Sudan file receives from the United Nations, highlighting that the Secretary-General is closely monitoring the political and security developments in the country. He stated that his visit aims to review recent developments, understand the government’s future plans, and explore the support he can provide for Sudan’s unity, security, and stability.
Ambassador Salim reiterated the Sudanese government’s commitment to achieving peace, emphasizing that the roadmap previously submitted to the United Nations serves as the primary reference for progress. This roadmap reflects the aspirations of the Sudanese people. He also affirmed the government’s readiness to cooperate with the United Nations through various mechanisms to ensure national security and stability.
The discussion also addressed the humanitarian situation in Sudan, particularly in Al-Fashir, where terrorist militias continue to besiege the city, violating UN Security Council Resolution 2736. The Minister urged the UN envoy to increase efforts to address this situation.
