Antalya: Minister of Finance and Economic Planning Dr. Gebreil Ibrahim has met with his Omani counterpart, Sultan bin Salem Al Habsi, on the sidelines of the annual meetings of Arab Financial Institutions, held in Kuwait during April 9-10.
According to Sudan News Agency, the meeting was attended by the Governor of the Central Bank of Oman, Ahmed bin Nassir Al-Musalmi; the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Economic Planning, Dr. Mohammed Bashar; and the Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Sudan (CBoS), Mohammed Osman Mohammed Khair, along with several specialists from the Ministry of Finance and the Central Bank of Sudan. The discussions focused on strengthening economic and financial relations between the two countries.
The Minister of Finance expressed his gratitude to the government and people of Oman for their warm hospitality and support for Sudanese citizens residing in Oman, particularly in facilitating residency procedures amidst Sudan’s current challenges. Dr. Gebreil Ibrahim highlighted Sudan’s commitment to boosting economic cooperation with Oman, especially in gold exports and livestock products, to satisfy the Omani market’s demands. He also stressed the significance of partnerships in digital transformation and banking cooperation.
The Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Sudan expressed Sudan’s intention to enhance collaboration between the central banks of both countries, especially in correspondent banking and the potential establishment of branches of Sudanese commercial banks in Oman.
The Omani Minister of Finance underscored the strong fraternal ties between the nations and expressed Oman’s eagerness to boost trade cooperation, particularly in gold imports and leveraging the gold refinery in the Omani Free Zone. He also showed interest in increasing trade volume, especially in importing Sudanese meat through partnerships between companies in both countries. Additionally, he affirmed Oman’s support for exchanging expertise in digital transformation and strengthening bilateral banking relations.
The meeting concluded with both parties agreeing to continue their efforts to bolster trade, economic, and banking ties. They highlighted the formation of technical teams from the central banks of Sudan and Oman to ensure effective coordination and progress in joint banking cooperation, aligning with the strategic interests of both nations.
