Khartoum: The Emergency Operations Center convened at the office of the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim, located at the ministry’s headquarters on Nile Street. The meeting focused on evaluating the country’s health situation and necessary interventions.
According to Sudan News Agency, Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim emphasized the importance of ongoing efforts to address health risks anticipated during the autumn season. He stressed the need for a comprehensive plan that outlines requirements and ensures coordination with international, UN, and national organizations. Dr. Ibrahim highlighted the successful collaboration between the ministry and organizations, which has been instrumental in combating the cholera epidemic.
The cholera epidemiological situation report indicated that Khartoum State has recorded 22,277 cases since the outbreak began, resulting in 407 deaths. The Environmental Health and Food Control report revealed that out of 682 targeted water sources across Sennar, Al-Gadarif, River Nile, Kassala, and Khartoum, 536 were assessed, with 256 found compliant and 191 non-compliant. Additionally, 7,436 tons of waste were managed across several states, achieving 84% of the targeted 8,863 tons.
The Health Promotion Report detailed various initiatives conducted throughout the week, including media and social media campaigns, community dialogues, home visits, and cholera awareness programs in multiple states. The Supply Report pointed out inconsistencies in the availability of medicines and epidemic supplies in the National Medical Supplies Fund’s warehouses, despite contributions from certain organizations to several states. The National Public Health Laboratory (STAC) provided an account of the samples tested both at the main laboratory and across state laboratories over the past week, along with information on the status of diagnostic supplies.
The quarantine report detailed the entry of 20,189 individuals into the country last week, with 6,916 departures, and noted that 717 people sought services at emergency clinics located at entry points. The autumn report assessed the damages incurred during the fall of 2024 and outlined a plan for 2025, budgeted at 20 billion pounds. The World Health Organization report described the support activities carried out in several states.
