Khartoum: The Higher Committee for Creating an Enabling Environment for the Return of Citizens to Khartoum State has urged citizens to remove illegal electricity connections, warning that they cause breakdowns and high maintenance costs.
According to Sudan News Agency, the Committee explained in a press conference Sunday in Khartoum that the state needs 14,000 transformers to restore electricity, as the networks were systematically devastated with professional planning. It further noted that the current electricity tariff is too low to cover operational costs.
The Committee reported that the total vandalizations in the electricity sector are estimated at USD 468 million, with ongoing efforts to reconnect power to all stations. It stated that repair operations rely on national expertise and are focusing on hydropower generation to reduce costs under the current circumstances.
Despite the war and destruction of distribution networks, all high-voltage towers have been restored, with the remaining challenge lying in distribution.
