Khartoum: Arrangements are underway to register emergency cases of children arriving and displaced from East Darfur State during the war. Dr. Najla Abdullah Ali Mohammed, Secretary-General of the Child Welfare Council for East Darfur, accompanied by the Commissioner of Humanitarian Aid, Mr. Malik Mohammed Ali, conducted a joint inspection visit to White Nile State yesterday to assess the situation of children arriving and displaced from East Darfur State. The visit aimed to identify cases of children in special emergency situations and to determine how to communicate with the arriving and displaced families currently residing in White Nile State in order to put in place the necessary measures to register the children arriving in the state.
According to Sudan News Agency, the Secretary-General of the Council for Child Welfare in East Darfur and the Commissioner of Humanitarian Aid in East Darfur met with Dr. Lamia Abdullah Al-Asha, Commissioner of Humanitarian Aid in White Nile State, at her office in Kosti. The meeting discussed common issues and strengthening the role of bilateral cooperation between East Darfur and White Nile States, in addition to the issues of children arriving and displaced with their families to White Nile State, identifying emergency cases in the development of a plan by the General Secretariat of the Council for Child Welfare in East Darfur, and exploring how to intervene to provide humanitarian and medical assistance and services to them, and integrating emergency cases with displaced children who are out of school and enrolling them in schools in the coming periods.
Dr. Lamia Abdullah, Commissioner of Humanitarian Aid in the White Nile State, praised the role and efforts of the East Darfur State and its attention to the issues of newcomers and displaced persons from East Darfur currently residing in the White Nile State, and affirmed her awareness of the conditions of citizens coming from East Darfur.
She said that the commission had previously sought and supported some of the newcomers from East Darfur and provided them with humanitarian aid in the form of food baskets, but it is striving to make more effort to provide humanitarian aid to all groups coming from East Darfur.
She praised the role of the previous committee, which was monitoring the situation of the displaced and had compiled a list of the newcomers residing in the White Nile State, which helped in obtaining information that facilitated the commission's method of assisting in distributing food baskets to these newcomers.
