Economic Committee Issues New Decisions to Strengthen Protection of National Economy

Khartoum: The Economic Committee held its meeting Monday in Port Sudan, chaired by Prime Minister Prof. Kamil Idris, as part of its follow-up on the implementation of previous decisions and in accordance with Decision No. (132).

According to Sudan News Agency, the committee has tasked the Central Bank of Sudan (CBoS) with opening outlets in production markets to purchase gold at global stock exchange prices. The Sudanese Standards and Metrology Organization (SSMO) has been assigned the responsibility for calibration and inspection tasks.

Additionally, the committee decided to form a subcommittee led by the Minister of Finance to oversee the implementation of the committee’s resolutions. The meeting also directed regular forces to establish a joint unit, equipped with necessary support, to protect the national economy.

The committee stressed the importance of enacting and enforcing anti-smuggling legislation, highlighting smuggling as a crime that poses a threat to national security. It also called for strict adherence to decisions regarding the suspension of imports through ‘pallets’ and compliance with vehicle import regulations.
