Khartoum: The committee responsible for preparing Sudan's Fourth National Report under the Universal Periodic Review (UPR) mechanism convened its inaugural meeting on Tuesday. This gathering was led by the head of the Legal Sector and the Rapporteur of the National Human Rights Mechanism.
According to Sudan News Agency, the committee examined Justice Ministerial Decision No. 40 of 2026, which officially established the committee and defined its responsibilities. These responsibilities include preparing the Fourth National Report, gathering data, engaging with government institutions and relevant stakeholders, and employing a consultative method for drafting the report.
Sudan is preparing this report as part of its involvement in the fourth UPR cycle, which will take place during the 54th session in Geneva. Additionally, the meeting assessed the progress of recommendations that were accepted after Sudan's third review in 2022. During that review, Sudan received 283 recommendations, accepted 244, and acknowledged 39.
Committee Rapporteur Khadija Al-Fadil Mousa provided a briefing to the members on the UPR process and the procedures involved in preparing the report.
The discussions also covered topics such as data collection, classification, analysis, stakeholder consultations, and the establishment of subcommittees focused on information gathering, drafting, and providing logistical support to ensure the report is submitted on time.
