Khartoum: During a meeting led by the Ministry of Health in Khartoum on Tuesday, the Emergency Operations Center confirmed a significant decline in cholera cases in Khartoum State due to various interventions. However, new cases continue to be detected in several localities in other states, including East Gezira, Belail, Tendalti, Al-Jabalain, Al-Da’ein, and Shikan. The Center reported 730 cases, resulting in six deaths during the 25th epidemiological week from June 21 to 27.
According to Sudan News Agency, a surveillance report presented at the Center’s headquarters revealed 101 measles cases in eight localities within one week, with Tawila, Tendalti, Abu Hamad, Al-Kamlin, Hamrat Al-Sheikh, and rural Khashm Al-Girba among the most affected. The cumulative number of meningitis cases reached 186, including 15 deaths across seven states, with Gezira State accounting for 64% of these cases.
The Fall 2025 Preparedness Report announced the development of a national plan and updated response teams in 16 states, along with the provision of supplies from the World Health Organization and UNICEF. The Environmental Health and Food Control Report indicated progress in vector control, inspection of food establishments, and license reviews in cooperation with organizations.
The Health Promotion Report showed a 99% rate of home visits and community interventions through lectures and media campaigns. The Supply Report highlighted variations in the availability of medicines and epidemic supplies, with the highest availability in North Kordofan and Red Sea, and noted discrepancies in cholera and dengue fever solutions provided by UNICEF and the World Health Organization.
Additionally, the National Public Health Laboratory report detailed samples tested and the availability of state laboratories. The quarantine report noted the arrival and departure of thousands, including returnees from Iran, and visits to emergency clinics.
In maternal and child health activities, services continued across all states with support for nurseries from the United Nations Development Program. Initiatives included a cholera vaccination campaign in Rahad locality, training in clinical management of rape cases, and workshops for the field epidemiology program.
The One Health Platform coordinated with the Supply Directorate for vaccine provision, while discussions were ongoing to include the price vaccine under the Global Support Fund. Subcommittees were activated, and coordination with partners was underway for a World Bank grant proposal.
Emergency administrations presented reports on health conditions and geographic information systems. The meeting also received reports on the Kuwaiti Patients’ Aid Fund activities and joint efforts with UNICEF.
The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Health, Dr. Haitham Mohammed Ibrahim, emphasized monitoring conditions of returnees from South Sudan, closing epidemic hotspots, and planning autumn emergency activities. Dr. Haitham highlighted the importance of publicizing the One Health Platform’s activities through scheduled reports.
