CANBERRA: The Charg© d’Affaires of the Sudanese Embassy in Australia, Ahmed Salah Bayoumi, engaged in discussions with Lara Naso, the Acting Assistant Under-Secretary of State for African Affairs at the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. The meeting, held at the Ministry’s headquarters, focused on the evolving political and field situation in Sudan.
According to Sudan News Agency, Bayoumi provided an update on Sudan’s steps towards establishing a democratic and civil political environment conducive to forming a transitional government of national competencies. He expressed concerns over Kenya’s actions, which include hosting meetings with a rebel militia to announce a parallel government, describing it as interference in Sudan’s internal affairs and a breach of international law and the UN Charter.
In response, the Acting Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs reiterated Australia’s support for Sudan’s stability, unity, and territorial integrity. She emphasized opposition to any efforts to establish a parallel government and called for an end to hostilities, ensuring unhindered humanitarian access, and pursuing a political resolution to the ongoing crisis.
The Australian official also highlighted the government’s disapproval of any form of violence against civilians. She mentioned that Australia is currently in a transitional phase due to the upcoming elections. Additionally, she referenced a recent tweet from Australia’s Non-Resident Ambassador to Sudan, Dr. Aksbel Wappenhorst, which condemned attacks on civilians, including children and humanitarian workers in Sudan.
