Geneva: The Attorney General of the Republic of Sudan, Intisar Ahmed Abdel-Aal, has made a strong appeal to the UN Human Rights Council to condemn the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for its alleged support of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia, which has been accused of committing numerous atrocities in Sudan. As the Head of the National Committee for Investigating Crimes and Violations of National and International Humanitarian Law, Abdel-Aal delivered a statement rejecting foreign interference in Sudan’s affairs.
According to Sudan News Agency, the Attorney General emphasized that Sudan’s participation in the Council sessions does not imply recognition of certain resolutions but aims to showcase the efforts by Sudanese judicial authorities. She highlighted that Sudan is committed to maintaining its judicial independence and national accountability mechanisms as a member of the Council.
The Attorney General detailed the atrocities committed by the RSF, including killings, forced displacement, sexual violence, and sieges on major cities like El-Fashir, Kadugli, and Dilling. She reported that 131,706 criminal cases have been filed, with 4,985 referred to national courts, and 1,988 cases adjudicated. Intisar also noted grave violations against women and children, with 1,866 documented cases of sexual violence and forced recruitment, and stated that the RSF’s targeting of civilians has exacerbated the humanitarian crisis.
Intisar accused the UAE of directly supporting the RSF with weapons, equipment, and mercenary recruitment, leading to an estimated $771 billion in economic damages. She urged the Human Rights Council to terminate the mandate of the UN Fact-Finding Mission, which she described as politicized and biased, and called for pressure on the UAE and other RSF supporters to halt their backing and prevent mercenary transfers into Sudan.
In her concluding remarks, the Attorney General refuted allegations regarding the use of chemical weapons, describing them as false and based on anonymous sources. She criticized the politicization of non-governmental organizations’ work and emphasized Sudan’s commitment to the Chemical Weapons Convention. A national committee was formed to investigate these claims, underscoring Sudan’s rejection of the accusations.
The Attorney General also addressed the UAE delegation’s comments on the neutrality of the national committee, urging them to reflect on their own country’s history and legal frameworks.
