Khartoum: Attorney General and Chair of the National Committee for Investigating Crimes and Violations of National Law and International Humanitarian Law, Intisar Ahmed Abdel-Aal, conducted an inspection tour of Soba Prison on Friday. The visit reflects the Public Prosecution's commitment to monitoring the enforcement of the law and safeguarding the rights of detainees.
According to Sudan News Agency, during the tour, she was accompanied by the heads of public prosecutions in Khartoum State, and they were received by the Director General of the Prison Forces, Lt. Gen. (Police) Yassir Omar Abu Zeid. The Attorney General listened to a detailed report from the Director General of Prison Forces on the prison's operations, examined the condition of inmates, and reviewed the challenges faced by the prison administration in fulfilling its duties. She closely observed the status of detainees awaiting investigation and inquired about the reasons for their detention and the difficulties obstructing investigative procedures.
In this regard, she called for the acceleration of investigative procedures and stressed that no person should remain in custody without the completion of the necessary legal processes. The visit also included the National Education Center, where she reviewed the conditions of minors and children, emphasizing the importance of providing proper care for them.
The tour encompassed a visit to the prison hospital, where she checked on the health of inmate patients and ensured the provision of essential medical services. Several immediate decisions were taken to expedite the pace of investigations.
At the conclusion of her visit, the Attorney General expressed her sincere thanks and appreciation to the administration of Soba Federal Prison for their significant role in managing inmates effectively. She also commended the ongoing cooperation between the prison administration and prosecution staff in investigative procedures, reflecting the shared commitment to achieving justice and upholding human rights.
