Cairo: Arab League Secretary-General Nabil Fahmy asserted on Monday that the sovereignty of Arab states is an inviolable "red line" that must be protected at all costs, as reported by Xinhua.
According to Nam News Network, at his first press conference since taking office on July 1, Fahmy emphasized the collective responsibility of maintaining the national security of the Arab world, urging for a united approach. He stated, "Any aggression targeting the security of any Arab state is an aggression against the security of the entire Arab world."
Addressing regional tensions, Fahmy highlighted that ongoing crises in countries such as Sudan, Syria, Yemen, Libya, and Somalia require resolutions through dialogue and diplomacy. He reinforced the Arab League's dedication to supporting initiatives aimed at restoring peace and security in these regions, emphasizing the importance of maintaining territorial integrity, ceasing hostilities, providing humanitarian aid, and facilitating the safe return of displaced individuals and refugees.
Fahmy also reaffirmed the Arab League's commitment to the Palestinian cause, stating it remains a primary concern. He vowed to uphold the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people, work towards ending the occupation, and ensure accountability for those committing "crimes against civilians."
