Khartoum: The Minister of Animal Resources and Fisheries, Professor Ahmed Al-Tijani Al-Mansouri, emphasized the significance of the fisheries sector as a vital contributor to economic, social, and environmental development. This assertion was made during his recent inspection tour of several ministry units in Khartoum, where he engaged with workers at the Fisheries Training Center and the General Directorate of Animal Resources Research in the Al-Shajara area. Dr. Ammar Al-Sheikh Idris, the Ministry's Undersecretary, was also present during the tour.
According to Sudan News Agency, the Minister has committed to resolving issues that hinder the workflow within the sector and reviewed the conditions of the employees. In a press statement, he highlighted the fisheries sector's essential role in ensuring food security, fostering employment opportunities, and boosting national income. He noted that Sudan is endowed with diverse water resources, including seas, rivers, and lakes, which can be leveraged for the sector's growth.
Al-Mansouri further elaborated on the benefits of expanding aquaculture, which can lead to increased production and meet the growing demand for fish. This expansion stimulates related industries such as feed, boat, and fishing equipment manufacturing. It also provides livelihoods for the population, contributing to improved living conditions, poverty alleviation, and sustainable development.
