Balikesir: A 6.1-magnitude earthquake struck the Balikesir region of Turkiye late Monday, sending tremors across a wide swath of the country’s western provinces, including Istanbul and Izmir.
According to Syrian Arab News Agency, Turkey’s Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD) reported that the epicenter was located at a depth of 5.99 kilometers (3.72 miles). Residents of Istanbul, Izmir, and other areas in the Marmara and Aegean regions felt the tremor.
Authorities have reported no casualties or significant damage. This quake comes less than three months after a similar one occurred in the same region on August 10, which killed one person and injured 29 others.
