Khartoum: President of the Sudanese Businessmen and Employers Federation Muawiya Mohamed Ahmed Al-Burair affirmed the ability of the national private sector to withstand the challenges, resume its activities, and contribute to leading efforts for economic recovery and the reconstruction of Sudan. He noted that rebuilding what was destroyed by the war represents an investment opportunity that can benefit Sudan and its partners.
According to Sudan News Agency, addressing the High-Level Dialogue on the Recovery of Sudan's Private Sector, organized by the Ministry of Finance at Al-Salam Hotel in Khartoum on Monday, Al-Burair said the private sector had suffered systematic destruction of its assets since the outbreak of the war. However, it managed to withstand the challenges and resume its activities, continuing to support citizens by contributing to food security and fulfilling its social responsibility.
He noted that the private sector had demonstrated a strong ability to adapt to the difficult circumstances imposed by the war, stressing that the national, regional, and international participation in the dialogue is one of the factors contributing to its success, particularly as Sudan has extensive natural and human resources.
Al-Burair explained that the private sector looks forward to sustained dialogue with the state through multiple sectoral platforms to develop an integrated strategy for private-sector recovery, while also ensuring its participation in economic policymaking at both the federal and state levels.
He called for continued provision of technical assistance to facilitate dialogue between the private sector and the government, and for working with partners to secure urgent emergency packages to support private-sector recovery, particularly in the energy and renewable energy sectors.
President of the Sudanese Businessmen Federation also called on regional and international partners to invest in Sudan and enter into partnerships with the national private sector, while making greater efforts to enable the private sector to access regional and international financing institutions.
Al-Burair commended the initiative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) to organize the dialogue, expressing his appreciation to the Ministry of Finance and the entities and partners that contributed to its preparation and organization. He expressed hope that the dialogue would produce practical recommendations that contribute to economic recovery and strengthen the role of the private sector during the reconstruction phase.
