Khartoum: Head of the Joint Working Team for Organizing the Dialogue and Finance Ministry Undersecretary Dr. Mohamed Ali Jumaa affirmed that private-sector recovery is a key pillar of comprehensive economic recovery efforts, rebuilding productive capacities, restoring economic activity and investment, improving employment and income opportunities, and strengthening the capacity of the Sudanese economy.
According to Sudan News Agency, addressing the High-Level Dialogue on the Recovery of Sudan's Private Sector at Al-Salam Hotel in Khartoum on Monday, he said the Sudanese private sector had demonstrated a strong capacity for resilience, adaptation, and continuity. Within the limits of available resources, it contributed to maintaining the flow of goods and services, sustaining economic activities, providing employment and income opportunities, and meeting citizens' needs despite the challenges caused by the war, which affected property, infrastructure, and productive and service facilities, directly impacting the business environment.
He noted that these repercussions had a direct impact on the business environment, as facilities, factories, warehouses, and markets suffered significant damage, affecting the activities of a number of institutions and companies.
Jumaa said the convening of the dialogue underscores the importance of partnership and dialogue among the government, the private sector, and development partners as an essential means of jointly identifying priorities, understanding challenges, and agreeing on practical pathways to support recovery.
He added that the next phase requires a gradual shift from responding to the repercussions of the crisis toward building a sustainable path to economic recovery and reconstruction, based on restoring productive activity, improving the business environment, facilitating access to finance, rehabilitating infrastructure, strengthening public-private partnerships, and benefiting from the technical and financial support that development partners can provide.
The Finance Ministry Undersecretary stressed the importance of institutional coordination and identifying priorities and solutions that are suited to the realities of the Sudanese economy and the circumstances of the private sector.
He expressed the Ministry of Finance's expectation that the discussions would lead to broad and actionable outcomes that identify priorities, measures, and responsibilities, and lay the foundations for a more effective partnership among the government, the private sector, and development partners.
Jumaa also expressed hope that the dialogue would help shape a shared vision for private-sector recovery and strengthen its ability to resume its natural role as a key driver of production, investment, and growth, as well as a key partner in reconstruction and development efforts.
At the conclusion of his remarks, the undersecretary welcomed the participants, expressing his appreciation to the entities, institutions, and partners that contributed to preparing the conference. He looked forward to the deliberations producing a practical vision that places private-sector recovery among the priorities of national economic recovery and that the dialogue's outcomes would represent a practical step toward a Sudanese economy better able to withstand challenges and recover.
