Sudan Attends Arab Anti-Corruption Convention in Doha

Doha:Sudan participated in the Conference of States Parties to the Arab Convention against Corruption, held from September 21 to 23. The Sudanese delegation was led by Ali Khidr, the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Justice and Head of the Legal Sector, and included Lt. Gen. Abdeen Al-Tahir, Head of the Anti-Corruption Commission, and Ambassador Abdul-Azim Al-Karouri from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.According to Sudan News Agency, the head of the Sudanese delegation emphasized the country's commitment to the Anti-Corruption Convention. He highlighted Sudan's fulfillment of both international and regional obligations in fighting corruption, crediting the efforts of its judicial and law enforcement authorities as well as all state institutions. He also elaborated on Sudan's experience in combating corruption, the steps taken to implement the Arab Convention against Corruption, and the development of national mechanisms such as the Anti-Corruption Commission and the recovery of public funds.The conferen ce aimed to enhance coordination and strengthen joint Arab efforts in combating corruption. Discussions focused on promoting justice, integrity, and transparency through legislative development, improving national institutions responsible for implementing these laws, and fostering the exchange of expertise to achieve significant results. Additionally, the conference sought to strengthen effective implementation and develop follow-up mechanisms by utilizing available expertise in Arab countries, incorporating modern monitoring and evaluation tools.Several issues were addressed during the conference, including codes of conduct and their practical implementation, as well as their impact on the public sector. The challenges and opportunities related to facilitating access to information were also discussed, along with the relationship between parliamentary councils and anti-corruption bodies.
