Sudan and Japan Platform Discuss Enhanced Humanitarian Support in Tokyo

Tokyo:Sudan's Ambassador to Japan, Al-Rayah Haidoub, met with a delegation from Japan Platform, led by Deputy Secretary-General Hiroaki Higuchi, at the Sudanese Embassy in Tokyo. Second Secretary Basmala Montaser Mohamed was also present at the meeting.

According to Sudan News Agency, the discussion was part of efforts by the Sudanese Embassy to garner Japanese development and humanitarian aid. Japan Platform, which includes more than 25 Japanese voluntary organizations, reviewed its humanitarian activities in Sudan, highlighting 15 projects already implemented at a cost of ¥355 million (approximately US$2.25 million). Three additional projects are planned before the year ends, with Sudan being highlighted as a priority due to its current humanitarian challenges.

Ambassador Haidoub briefed the delegation on positive developments in Sudan and emphasized the embassy's commitment to providing necessary support. He pointed out that medical supplies, especially antivenoms and medicines for diseases like malaria and typhoid, as well as food and shelter tents, are among the current priorities.

The meeting also addressed logistical challenges faced by Japan Platform and its partners, with the Ambassador pledging to convey these issues to the relevant Sudanese authorities. It concluded with an agreement to hold a comprehensive meeting in mid-October, aimed at improving coordination among organizations within Japan Platform and encouraging the expansion of their humanitarian efforts in Sudan.
