Qatar Highlights Role in Combating Transnational Crime at Vienna Session

Vienna: The State of Qatar participated in the 35th session of the United Nations Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (CCPCJ), held in Vienna. The delegation, led by HE Legal Advisor to HE Minister of Interior, Maj. Gen. Dr. Abdullah Yousef Al Mal, emphasized the significance of enhancing multilateral cooperation to tackle transnational organized crime, cybercrime, and corruption.

According to Qatar News Agency, Dr. Al Mal noted the escalation of transnational organized crime amidst global conflicts and international polarization. He stressed that international cooperation is essential for maintaining global peace and security while addressing shared security challenges. Dr. Al Mal also highlighted Qatar's efforts in this domain, such as hosting the 11th session of the Conference of the States Parties to the United Nations Convention against Corruption (COSP11) scheduled for December 2025.

During the session, Dr. Al Mal discussed the adoption of the "Doha Declaration," which supports enhancing international cooperation and capacity-building in the anti-corruption arena. He reaffirmed Qatar's commitment to negotiating the United Nations Convention against Cybercrime and urged countries to approve this convention to fortify global efforts against cybercrimes.

In his concluding remarks, Dr. Al Mal advocated for increased investment in crime prevention and criminal justice. He proposed pursuing comprehensive strategies to address the socioeconomic causes of crime, with a focus on youth empowerment and investing in their potential.
