Khartoum: Engineer Osman Mirghani, a member of the Sudanese-Sudanese Dialogue Initiative, affirmed that the initiative aims to create the conditions for holding a Sudanese conference inside the country, bringing together political and community forces to discuss ways of overcoming the current crisis and building a state that moves beyond the bitterness of the past and the mistakes of history.
According to Sudan News Agency, Mirghani spoke on the 'Political Forum' program on Sudan TV, stating that the initiative was launched by a group of Sudanese citizens concerned about the country's future. He emphasized that the initiative's founders have no predetermined agenda for the dialogue and are not seeking to impose specific outcomes, but rather to prepare the ground for Sudanese stakeholders.
He explained that the initiative is based on several conditions, foremost among them allowing a Sudanese conference to be held inside Sudan, providing the necessary guarantees for free dialogue among the various political and community forces without restrictions, and committing to implementing the outcome of the dialogue. 'We do not own the dialogue and we have no agenda. All we have done is prepare the ground for the Sudanese parties,' he said, underscoring that the participating parties themselves would determine how the dialogue sessions are managed, their agenda, and the recommendations they may reach.
Mirghani noted that the initiative initially began with four people, including himself, following consultations held in Egypt, before moving to the stage of practical testing inside Sudan. The founders requested a meeting with the President of the Transitional Sovereignty Council (TSC) to ascertain whether the necessary political will and guarantees were available. Mirghani explained that the TSC President listened to the proposal with interest, indicating that the meeting was not merely a courtesy encounter but involved reviewing the ideas and discussing the arguments and logic underlying the initiative.
Mirghani revealed that the initiative later expanded through engagement with additional stakeholders and the addition of members to its committee, aiming to broaden the range of views and develop the initiative in practical terms. He pointed out that the TSC President's speech marking Army Day was an important turning point, after he announced his commitment to the guarantees required for holding the dialogue, including matters related to immunities, legal procedures, and implementation of the conference's outcomes.
Mirghani stated that the content of the speech 'was evidence of seriousness, and that the road is now clear,' adding that the announcement sent a clear message that the ball was now in the court of Sudanese stakeholders to move forward and make the dialogue a success. He affirmed that the initiative is based on the conviction that Sudanese citizens' national motivation is stronger than ever and that the current phase represents an appropriate opportunity to overcome differences-not only to address the present crisis but also to build a stable Sudanese state that moves beyond the causes of recurring conflicts and wars.
