Khartoum: Federal Finance Minister Dr. Gebreil Ibrahim reaffirmed the government's commitment to developing the electricity sector and addressing the challenges facing power generation and supply in Sudan, as part of the state's efforts to expand resources and increase electricity generation capacity across the country.
According to Sudan News Agency, Dr. Ibrahim emphasized the importance of continued coordination among relevant authorities to ensure fuel supplies for power-generation plants and maintain electricity supplies to various facilities. The minister made these remarks during a meeting at his office in Khartoum with the Director General of the Sudan Electricity Public Corporation, Engineer Abdullah Ahmed Mohamed Ali, and the Director of Nile Petroleum Company, Alaa Al-Din Al-Tayeb.
Dr. Ibrahim underscored the importance of developing smart plans to provide energy at affordable prices and make it accessible to consumers. This strategy aims to increase industrial and agricultural production, boost exports, and enhance the competitiveness of Sudanese products in global markets. He also highlighted the need for concerted efforts and close coordination among relevant institutions to advance Sudan's energy sector, expressing hope that electricity generation would increase to 40 gigawatts over the next ten years, thereby doubling production, supporting economic recovery, and facilitating reconstruction across the country.
Engineer Abdullah Ahmed Mohamed Ali, Director General of the Sudan Electricity Public Corporation, stated that the meeting endorsed ongoing arrangements to secure the fuel required for thermal power plants. This initiative seeks to increase electricity generated from thermal sources and stabilize power supplies nationwide. The meeting was attended by key figures including the Director General of the Sudan Electricity Public Corporation, the Director of Nile Petroleum Company, the representative of grid-connected generation, as well as directors general and representatives of relevant directorates at the Ministry of Finance.
