Omdurman:Omdurman National Bank has become the first in Sudan to enable customers to update their data digitally using the national digital identity system, Sudapass. This development allows customers both inside and outside Sudan to verify their identity through the bank's digital channels, eliminating the need for in-person branch visits.
According to Sudan News Agency, this initiative is part of a broader effort led by the Ministry of Digital Transformation and Communications, in collaboration with the Central Bank of Sudan and the banking sector. The aim is to gradually link the national digital identity to banking systems according to each bank's technical readiness, facilitating digital identity verification for customers.
The integration not only streamlines data update processes but also enhances the convenience and flexibility of accessing banking services for customers worldwide. Engineer Ahmed Ghandour, Minister of Digital Transformation, emphasized the ministry's citizen-centric approach to digitizing services, aiming to simplify procedures and improve service delivery.
The Minister also highlighted plans to continue expanding the connection with other banks, reinforcing digital identity as a fundamental component of Sudan's digital infrastructure. This move is expected to support service integration across governmental and private sectors, making services more accessible to citizens.
Professor Abdel Moneim Mohamed El Tayeb, Director General of Omdurman National Bank, expressed pride in the bank's pioneering role in integrating Sudapass. He reiterated the bank's commitment to enhancing customer experiences and expanding digital services, ensuring compliance with approved banking controls.
The successful implementation of this first banking link is anticipated to pave the way for wider adoption of Sudapass in various services, strengthening the role of the national digital identity in making digital services more accessible to Sudanese citizens globally.
