Khartoum:The Ministry of Social Welfare and Development in North Darfur State has announced the start of a new phase to address omissions from the census of displaced persons residing in Khartoum. This phase, running from October 1st to 10th, aims to ensure comprehensive coverage across various localities in Khartoum State.
According to Sudan News Agency, Dr. Badour Adam Mohamed, Director General of the Ministry, confirmed that the initial phase of the program has been completed, with a preliminary database established for thousands of displaced families. The current efforts focus on individuals who could not register earlier due to displacement or movement issues, as well as those whose names were accidentally omitted.
Dr. Badour emphasized that the initiative, in collaboration with the Humanitarian Aid Commission, is not merely a statistical exercise but a critical step towards addressing the needs of displaced people scientifically and systematically. The goal is to create an accurate database to ensure aid reaches those in need and to tackle issues such as education, official documentation, and healthcare.
She urged all displaced individuals from North Darfur in Khartoum who have not registered to do so to secure their rights. Registration is crucial for enabling government agencies and organizations to provide aid based on actual requirements. Dr. Badour also reassured displaced persons in camps and neighborhoods across various states that the census will eventually extend beyond Khartoum.
Dr. Badour praised the Governor of North Darfur and the Humanitarian Aid Commission for their support and efforts. She also expressed gratitude to the governments and citizens of different states for their hospitality towards displaced individuals, highlighting the unity and cohesion of the Sudanese people. Coordination will continue with regional governments to address the issues faced by displaced people in camps, particularly the Gate of Rains camp.
