Khartoum: The Governor of Darfur Region, Minni Arko Minawi, met on Monday with key United Nations officials to discuss the humanitarian situation in Darfur. The meeting, held with Mr. Leonardo Cunha, Head of the United Nations Department of Safety and Security and Senior Security Advisor in Sudan, along with Mr. Essam Ghoneim, liaison officer and coordinator of the United Nations Department of Safety and Security in Sudan, is part of a series of discussions initiated by the Governor.
According to Sudan News Agency, Minawi shared insights on the meeting through a tweet on the X platform. He expressed that the discussions highlighted the difficult humanitarian conditions in the Darfur region. The talks also focused on facilitating access for those affected and enabling international teams to monitor humanitarian activities effectively.
Minawi emphasized the necessity of establishing direct communication channels with both the Darfur Regional Government and the Federal Government to coordinate efforts. He further stressed the importance of bolstering international initiatives to support peace and stability in the region. The Governor highlighted that overcoming the challenges faced by the people of Darfur requires global cooperation and coordination.
