Khartoum: Minister of Industry and Trade Mahasin Ali Yagoub affirmed Sudan's keenness to strengthen economic cooperation relations with Libya and make use of the available potential in the two brotherly countries.
According to Sudan News Agency, during her meeting on Monday with Charg© d'Affaires of the Libyan Embassy in Sudan, Al-Sharif Mohamed Hebli, at the ministry's headquarters in Khartoum, Yagoub stated that Sudan looks forward in the coming period to building strong economic relations with Libya. This would be achieved by activating memorandums of understanding and agreements, and implementing joint integration projects in the fields of industry, trade, and livestock.
Yagoub highlighted that such efforts would leverage the geographical location and resources of both countries, revitalizing cross-border trade through the establishment of a free trade zone. This initiative aims to develop and expand trade exchange and facilitate the access of Sudanese exports to Mediterranean markets.
The minister emphasized the necessity of overcoming challenges facing transit trade by providing integrated infrastructure, including roads, border crossings, and means of transport, to stimulate economic and trade activity between Sudan, Libya, and neighboring countries.
She also affirmed the need for serious work to activate the joint Sudanese-Libyan ministerial committees, with a focus on achieving economic integration between the two countries, creating broad-based partnerships, and developing effective development solutions.
During the meeting, the Charg© d'Affaires of the Libyan Embassy in Sudan extended an invitation from Libya's Minister of Trade and Economy to Yagoub to attend the Conference of Trade Ministers of Libya's Neighboring Countries. He affirmed that the conference represents a foundation for economic prosperity amid global economic challenges and blocs.
