Khartoum: Human Resources and Social Welfare Minister, Motasem Ahmed Saleh, engaged in discussions with Uganda's Minister for Disaster Preparedness and Refugees, Lillian Aber, about facilitating the voluntary return of Sudanese nationals. This initiative is part of the efforts by the National High Committee for Voluntary Return and Reintegration.
According to Sudan News Agency, Minister Saleh expressed gratitude towards Uganda for hosting Sudanese nationals during the years of conflict, acknowledging their contributions in health, education, and investment sectors. Minister Aber affirmed Uganda's commitment to cooperate, aiming to expedite and simplify the return procedures for those wishing to return voluntarily. She also assigned the Commissioner for Refugees to appoint a focal point to oversee the process.
Both ministers agreed on considering the allocation of a dedicated pathway at Entebbe International Airport to ensure a smooth and dignified return for the returnees. Additional coordination will be maintained to facilitate this process.
Minister Saleh also met with Sudanese beneficiaries of an initiative by Direct Aid Organization, where travel tickets were presented to 300 returnees as part of a larger donation of 1,200 tickets supporting the voluntary return programme. He emphasized that the return process is entirely voluntary, with the committee's role being to organize, facilitate, and support reintegration efforts. The minister reiterated that Sudan is open to all nationals wishing to return without any conditions.
