Foreign Minister Attends Critical OIC Meeting in Jeddah

Khartoum: Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Mohi-Eddin Salem, took part in the extraordinary meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) at the organization's headquarters.According to Sudan News Agency, the minister emphasized that Sudan's involvement in the meeting highlighted its backing for the consensus in nominating and electing the new OIC Secretary-General, Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed from Mauritania, who secured unanimous election. He detailed that although Sudan initially proposed a candidate for the Secretary-General role, it decided to withdraw its candidate after discussions with fellow member states, prioritizing a unified consensus.The Foreign Minister also delivered a statement regarding the Palestinian issue, reiterating Sudan's unwavering support for the Palestinian cause, particularly concerning Jerusalem. He assured that Sudan remains committed to assisting the Palestinian people in achieving peace and st ability, ensuring their rights, and fostering security for all within Palestinian society.Addressing a question from SUNA about Russia and China's supportive stances towards Sudan at the UN Security Council, the Foreign Minister acknowledged both countries as allies. He expressed appreciation for their continued support of Sudan across various international platforms and situations.
