Health Ministry Reviews Disease Surveillance System, Affirms Resilience of Health Sector

Kassala: The Disease Surveillance and Information Department at the General Directorate of Health Emergencies and Epidemic Control, Federal Ministry of Health, convened the Annual Review Meeting for the Disease Surveillance and Information System in Sudan on Saturday. The two-day meeting is being held at the Prince Hotel Hall in Kassala under the slogan: ‘Building a Resilient Health System through Effective Data Management and Strategic Leadership.’

According to Sudan News Agency, the Acting Director-General of the Directorate of Health Emergencies and Epidemic Control, Dr. Al-Fadil Mohamed Mahmoud, affirmed during the opening session that the surveillance and information system has remained fully operational. He noted that this continuity has ensured timely reporting of health events and epidemics, supporting sound decision-making despite the significant challenges posed by the ongoing conflict. Dr. Mahmoud emphasized: ‘Sudan will not be defeated through its health sector.’

He praised the dedication of staff at both federal and state levels who continued their work under difficult circumstances, and highlighted the support of international and UN partner organizations, including the World Health Organization (WHO).

The Head of the Event-Based Surveillance Section at the federal level outlined the meeting’s objectives, which include building a robust system capable of monitoring all health threats and epidemics, identifying impediments faced by surveillance departments at state and locality levels, improving performance across health institutions and communities, facilitating the exchange of experiences, and developing an operational plan for 2026.
