Foreign Ministry Decries Attack on Al-Shawak Power Station as New Crime Against State Institutions

Khartoum: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs has condemned the Janjaweed militia’s use of suicide drones to attack Al-Shawak Power Station and Al-Gadarif Water Station in Al-Gadarif State, eastern Sudan, labeling it a crime born of despair and frustration following a series of military defeats by the Sudanese Armed Forces and supporting forces.

According to Sudan News Agency, the Foreign Ministry’s statement on Saturday highlighted the consequences of the attack, which resulted in power outages in Kassala and Al-Gadarif states. These states are significant for their food production and host large numbers of displaced persons due to ongoing conflict, as well as refugees from neighboring countries. The assault also disrupted drinking water services in Al-Gadarif.

The statement further detailed the militia’s continued targeting of unarmed civilians. Over the past two days, 20 civilians were killed in the Al-Khiran area of Al-Hasahisa Locality, Al-Gezira State. Additionally, an attack on a livestock market south of Al-Fashir with long-range heavy artillery resulted in the deaths of 14 civilians. A civilian convoy between Tawila and Kabkabiya, North Darfur, also came under attack, leading to the deaths of approximately 120 individuals, mostly civilians, with the assault reportedly motivated by ethnic tensions.

In a further act of aggression against Sudan’s infrastructure and cultural heritage, the militia recently bombed the Sultan Ali Dinar Museum in El-Fashir, causing extensive damage.

The Ministry emphasized that the frequency of these terrorist acts underscores the militia’s role as a significant terrorist threat in the region, combining elements of terrorism, genocide, crimes against humanity, and war crimes. The Ministry called for effective international action against the militia and those who support it through arms, mercenaries, and safe havens for its leaders and members.
