Foreign Minister Engages UN Envoy on Sudan’s Stability and Security Challenges

Khartoum: Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Mohi-Eddin Salim, received the Special Envoy of the United Nations Secretary-General for the Horn of Africa, Mr. Kuang Kong, on Monday evening.

According to Sudan News Agency, the Special Envoy's visit to Sudan is part of his inaugural regional tour aimed at understanding the internal dynamics of the Horn of Africa. Mr. Kuang Kong emphasized the UN Secretary-General's commitment to fostering peace and stability in Sudan, recognizing its significance for the entire region's stability.

During the meeting, discussions focused on the latest political and security issues in Sudan, highlighting the violations and serious crimes committed by the rebel Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia against both public and private assets. Ambassador Salim expressed concerns about the support the militia receives from sponsoring states, which could pose risks to regional and international security if not addressed with firm international measures.

Ambassador Salim urged the UN Envoy to highlight the serious implications of mercenaries and external support to armed groups, stressing the need for the international community to take decisive action against nations providing advanced weaponry and political backing to such groups.
