Addis ababa: Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ambassador Mohi-Eddin Salim engaged with the UN Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa, Kuang Cong, at the Presidential Palace, focusing on the situation in Sudan and its regional implications.
According to Sudan News Agency, the discussion centered on addressing the underlying causes of regional crises, with both parties emphasizing the importance of maintaining state sovereignty and rejecting external interference that threatens the interests of the region. The UN Special Envoy highlighted the ongoing concerns over the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia's attacks on humanitarian efforts, referencing a recent incident involving a World Food Programme convoy.
Minister Salim expressed regret over such incidents and noted progress towards restoring control by the Sudanese Armed Forces across the national territory. He urged the United Nations to take a firm stance against the militia's supporters, calling for an end to the conflict that has been imposed on the Sudanese people. Additionally, he requested the UN envoy to clearly identify the perpetrators and hold them accountable for documented crimes.
