Geneva: Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Mohi-Eddin Salem, met on Wednesday with the Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), Amy Pope, during his visit to Geneva. The meeting focused on enhancing the partnership between Sudan and IOM, especially in facilitating voluntary returns and reintegration in safe areas experiencing increased citizen return.
According to Sudan News Agency, the Minister highlighted the national priority of creating conditions for voluntary return, emphasizing a shift from emergency response to stability support and service rehabilitation. This approach aims to uphold citizens' dignity and foster community stability. Updates were provided on humanitarian developments, including the situation in El Obeid and Kordofan regions, and concerns over attacks on civilian facilities by drones, cautioning against disruptions to voluntary return movements.
Ms. Amy Pope assured IOM's ongoing support for Sudan, focusing on displacement tracking, aiding returnees and host communities, and forming necessary partnerships to meet humanitarian and development needs. Both parties committed to sustained coordination to bolster sustainable returns, early recovery, and long-term solutions aligned with Sudan's priorities.
