Khartoum: Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Mohi-Eddin Salem, held talks with his Serbian counterpart on ways to strengthen and develop bilateral relations between Sudan and Serbia, as part of the minister's engagements during the meetings marking the 65th anniversary of the founding of the Non-Aligned Movement in Belgrade.
According to Sudan News Agency, the minister reaffirmed Sudan's interest in expanding political, economic, trade, investment, and cultural cooperation, with a focus on technical cooperation in agriculture, irrigation, agro-processing, higher education, and capacity building. He also proposed the resumption of the scholarship program for Sudanese students in Serbia.
He highlighted the historic legacy of relations between Sudan and the former Yugoslavia, noting the cooperation that existed in education and training, particularly in the graduation of Sudanese professionals in the maritime, medical, and pharmaceutical sectors. He affirmed Sudan's openness to expanding economic and investment partnerships and benefiting from the accumulated expertise and experience between the two countries.
The Foreign Minister also reviewed opportunities for cooperation in technology, agricultural machinery, storage, research and training, and livestock, while encouraging partnerships between the private sectors of the two countries.
For his part, the Serbian Foreign Minister expressed appreciation for Sudan's participation in the Non-Aligned Movement summit, affirming that there are broad opportunities to develop bilateral relations. He proposed strengthening communication between the two foreign ministries and establishing a mechanism for political consultations, paving the way for a new phase of diplomatic relations based on shared interests and constructive cooperation.
The meeting was attended by the Director of the International Organizations Directorate at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Dr. Mohamed Al-Dai Ali, and Sudan's Charg© d'Affaires in Romania, Minister Plenipotentiary Sara Mohamed Ahmed.
