Khartoum:Deputy Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Sudan, Ms. Surayo Buzurukova, has reiterated the UNDP's dedication to aiding Sudan's economic recovery in collaboration with the government, the private sector, and both national and international development partners.
According to Sudan News Agency, Buzurukova spoke at the conclusion of the High-Level Dialogue on the Recovery of Sudan's Private Sector held at Al-Salam Hotel in Khartoum. She praised the efforts made over the three-day event to address the needs of various stakeholders, including businesspeople, farmers, and traders, focusing on practical solutions to support the recovery.
Over the past three years, Sudan's private sector has managed to sustain trade and food production, meeting community needs despite challenges. Buzurukova stressed that achieving economic recovery requires more than determination; it necessitates investments and financing.
The dialogue resulted in the adoption of a recovery roadmap outlining priorities and timelines. It also included expressions of interest in investments from both national and international partners during business-to-business meetings and agreements on policy priorities in areas like financing, trade, energy, and market systems.
Buzurukova emphasized that the aim extends beyond restoring Sudan's economy to its pre-crisis state. The goal is to build a more robust and sustainable economy that can enhance food production, create better opportunities for youth, and attract investment.
Sudan's natural resources, agricultural potential, and active economic participants are vital to the recovery process. The outcomes of the dialogue are anticipated to strengthen partnerships and provide a clearer direction for recovery efforts.
The UNDP remains committed to a Sudan-led recovery process, confident in the country's ability to achieve progress, given the commitment shown by the government, private sector, and development partners during the discussions.
