Trkiye Supports Darfur IDPs with 5,450 Tents in North and East Darfur

Khartoum: The Humanitarian Aid Commission (HAC) of the Darfur Regional Government announced on Thursday the delivery of 5,450 tents to the internally displaced persons (IDPs) in North and East Darfur States, with support from the Republic of Trkiye and the Turkish Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD).

According to Sudan News Agency, Director of Social Welfare and Humanitarian Affairs Coordinator for the region, Abdel-Bagi Mohamed Hamid, extended gratitude to the Turkish government and people, as well as AFAD, for their rapid response to appeals by the regional government. He also acknowledged the efforts of the International Organization for Migration (IOM) in implementing the 30,000-tent project provided by Trkiye for the Darfur and Kordofan regions. This initiative comes at a critical time, coinciding with the rainy season and fires that affected displacement camps, leaving thousands of families without shelter.

Hamid called upon international and local organizations and donor agencies to urgently provide shelter materials for displaced persons in areas such as Ambro, Al-Malha, Karnoi, Al-Tina, and Kutum in North Darfur State, which are experiencing increasing waves of displacement and deteriorating humanitarian conditions.

He emphasized the readiness of the Humanitarian Aid Commission and government agencies to facilitate the delivery of assistance to affected people, stressing that continued support remains essential to alleviating the suffering of displaced persons and preserving their dignity.
