Sudan: Sudan's Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Al-Harith Idris, stressed that targeting civilians and spreading terror among them can never be justified or normalized, emphasizing the need to hold perpetrators of atrocities and violations accountable, regardless of who committed them or where they occurred.
According to Sudan News Agency, Ambassador Al-Harith Idris delivered his remarks at a UN Security Council session focused on Sudan. He highlighted the 25th anniversary of the September 11 terrorist attacks as a poignant reminder of the suffering caused by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia in Sudan. The ambassador underscored the impact of such atrocities on human conscience and urged the international community to stand in solidarity with victims of these violations.
Ambassador Al-Harith detailed the violations committed against the Sudanese people, including mass killings, sexual violence, forced displacement, siege and starvation, and the destruction of local communities. He emphasized that victims of terrorism and atrocities worldwide deserve justice and accountability, reiterating the moral imperative to reject attacks on civilians.
He further urged the Security Council to learn from the lessons of the September 11 attacks, warning against the tolerance, financing, arming, or enabling of those who commit organized violence against civilians. Such actions, he argued, not only threaten individual nations but also compromise international peace and security.
In his address, Sudan's UN envoy called on the Security Council to actively confront violations and prevent the normalization of crimes against people, ensuring that perpetrators do not evade justice and accountability.
