Sudan’s Foreign Ministry Initiates Strategic Diplomacy to Clarify Situation Amidst RSF Conflict.

Khartoum: The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, under the leadership of Ambassador Dr. Ali Yousuf Ahmed Al-Sharif, has embarked on a strategic diplomatic mission to inform the international community about the realities on the ground in Sudan. This initiative aims to expose the activities of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia and its backers, countering narratives that position the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the RSF as merely two factions vying for power-an outlook that has emboldened the RSF to persist in their actions.

According to Sudan News Agency, the Foreign Minister affirmed that this period will see significant diplomatic efforts to clarify the situation in Sudan, seeking to garner international support for the government and the military, which enjoys widespread backing from the Sudanese populace. Efforts will also focus on strengthening Sudan’s foreign relations, particularly with neighboring African countries.

In his initial foreign engagement, Dr. Al-Sharif met with Egyptian Foreign Minister
Dr. Badr Abdel-Ati, where they emphasized the importance of coordination on key issues affecting both nations. Egypt’s unwavering support for Sudan and its institutions was reiterated, highlighting its role in preserving Sudan’s unity.

Ambassador Dr. Al-Sharif expressed gratitude for Egypt’s steadfast support. Additionally, he met with Ahmed Aboul-Gheit, Secretary-General of the Arab League, to discuss bolstering cooperation with the League and enhancing its role in supporting Sudan.

The Minister also led the Sudanese delegation at the preparatory meeting for the Arab-Islamic Summit in Riyadh, engaging with multiple counterparts to share insights on Sudan’s current circumstances. A notable meeting with Syrian Foreign Minister Ambassador Bassam Sabbagh resulted in plans to elevate diplomatic relations and establish a political consultation committee. In a meeting with Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan, ongoing Saudi support for Sudan was reaffirmed, along with agreements to coordinate on region
al and international matters.

Further diplomatic engagements included discussions with the Somali Foreign Minister, the head of the Qatari delegation, and other attending ministers.

At the recent Climate Change Summit in Azerbaijan, the Foreign Minister held talks with various foreign counterparts.

Looking ahead, the Foreign Minister is scheduled to meet with US Special Envoy to Sudan, Mr. Tom Perriello, who commended the government’s decision to reopen the Adre crossing to expedite humanitarian aid across Sudan. This development aligns with a positive shift in the US stance, as exemplified by US House of Representatives member Sarah Jacobs, who condemned the RSF’s civilian attacks in Al-Gezira State and called for accountability from the militia and its backers, particularly the UAE.
