Khartoum: Prime Minister Professor Kamil Idris affirmed that upholding and promoting fundamental human rights principles is an integral part of Sudanese society, rooted in the country's religious teachings, cultural heritage, and social and ethical values.
According to Sudan News Agency, the Prime Minister has expressed Sudan's readiness to fully cooperate with the United Nations and the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights. This cooperation aims to promote and advance human rights principles in a manner consistent with Sudan's sovereignty, independence, and territorial integrity.
The Prime Minister made these remarks during a meeting in Khartoum with the UN Designated Expert on human rights in Sudan, Radhouane Nouicer, and his accompanying delegation. He emphasized Sudan's willingness to work with the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights on the basis of complementarity and joint action, focusing on monitoring, follow-up, verification, technical cooperation, and training.
Professor Idris also highlighted the challenges posed by the ongoing conflict in Sudan, stating that it is nearing its end. He acknowledged the grave atrocities and unprecedented crimes committed by the rebel militia against civilians, underscoring the need for restoring the social fabric to its former strength through efforts to promote security and social peace. These efforts would be conducted in cooperation with friends and international partners.
Furthermore, the Prime Minister expressed his full confidence in the efforts of UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Volker Trk, whose mandate has been renewed for another term, as well as in the work of the Independent Expert. He directed relevant state institutions to cooperate with these international bodies to ensure the advancement of human rights in Sudan.
