Khartoum: Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research Professor Ahmed Modawi Musa discussed with Secretary-General of the Union of Arab Scientific Research Councils Professor Abdulmajid Benamara ways to strengthen and expand Sudan's participation in the Union's activities, programs, and initiatives, in support of scientific and research cooperation among Arab countries.
According to Sudan News Agency, the meeting, held on Tuesday at the Union's regional office in Cairo, focused on several programs and initiatives aimed at enhancing Arab cooperation and integration in scientific research and innovation. A significant point of discussion was the 'Solidarity for the Future' initiative launched by the Union to support scientific research institutions in Arab countries affected by conflicts and wars, enhancing the role of scientific research in recovery, reconstruction, and development.
Both parties emphasized the need to expand and develop Sudan's participation in the Union's programs and initiatives. They highlighted the importance of leveraging opportunities for scientific cooperation, exchanging expertise, and building research and innovation capacities, which would, in turn, strengthen Sudan's presence and role in the Arab scientific community.
The discussions also covered the prospects for continued cooperation between Sudan and the Union amid the exceptional circumstances facing the country. They explored ways to support higher education and scientific research institutions, enabling them to reclaim their roles while benefiting from relevant Arab initiatives and programs supporting recovery, reconstruction, and development.
Professor Ahmed Modawi Musa reiterated the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research's commitment to strengthening its partnership with the Union of Arab Scientific Research Councils. He expressed interest in utilizing the Union's expertise and programs to support Sudanese researchers and research institutions and praised the Union's efforts in promoting Arab scientific cooperation and integration.
The meeting aligns with the Union's broader efforts to expand member states' participation in its programs and initiatives, foster cooperation, exchange expertise, build capacities, and harness scientific research and innovation to tackle common challenges and support sustainable development across the Arab region.
