Sudan and Saudi Arabia Discuss Strengthening Economic Ties at AIIB Meetings

Doha:Minister of Finance Dr. Gebreil Ibrahim of Sudan met with his Saudi counterpart, Minister of Finance Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Jadaan, alongside Deputy Governor of the Central Bank of Sudan Dr. Sami Abdel-Hafiz, during the annual meetings of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB).According to Sudan News Agency, the discussions focused on enhancing economic and financial relations between Sudan and Saudi Arabia, aiming to advance bilateral cooperation. The dialogue underscored the strategic and fraternal ties between the two nations, addressing issues like supporting Sudan's efforts to engage with international financial institutions and reviving the Heavily Indebted Poor Countries (HIPC) Initiative with the International Monetary Fund (IMF).The ministers explored enhancing cooperation in capacity building, expertise exchange, and training to support economic and financial institution development. They also discussed the potential for expanding collaboration with the Islamic Development Bank G roup to aid Sudan’s recovery and development efforts.Both sides emphasized the need to facilitate trade and economic transactions, fostering an environment conducive to investment and partnership between public and private sectors. The objective is to deepen economic ties, elevate economic relations, and support Sudan's efforts for economic recovery, promoting stability and growth in the region.Sudan expressed gratitude for Saudi Arabia's support and highlighted the desire to continue strengthening their economic and development partnership. The countries agreed to maintain coordination on discussed issues, aiming to convert cooperative proposals into practical actions benefiting both nations.
